About us

Rev. Dr. Tom Marfo

Who we are.

CARF is a humanitarian Christian non-governmental organization [NGO] dedicated to the eradication of human trafficking world wide especially, human trafficking from Africa to the European Union.

CARF is based in the Netherlands and was established and registered in 1998 in the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce as a non-profit organization.

CARF has a holistic approach to human trafficking for prostitution addressing all factors that cause human trafficking from Africa to Europe such as:

1. Poverty;
2. Socio-cultural issues;
3. Spiritual;
4. Sub-cultural trend among teenage girls;
5. Prevention;
6. Empowerment through capacity building;
7. Offer expertise and consultancy services to all stakeholders dealing with human trafficking from Africa to Europe.

CARF, is a faith-based non-governmental organization [ NGO ] founded by Rev. DR Tom Marfo in 1998 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands to fight against the scourge of human trafficking for forced prostitution of young African girls in the country.

As an African Christian, he was horrified at the open sale of young African girls who were brought to the Netherlands by traffickers; usually by relatives or someone known or close to the family. Quite often, this was done with the knowledge of the victim’s direct parents or close relatives.

Employing all his expertise and experience in dealing with sexual exploitation from Africa to Europe, Dr Marfo embarked on a massive media campaign to draw attention to the Darkness at the Red Light district of Amsterdam.

In September 2001, Dr. Tom Marfo brought the horrifying reality of human trafficking into every home in Netherlands through a heart-breaking documentary on the life of three victims. This was the first ever documentary of African Victims shown on Dutch television. That single documentary shamed and awakened a nation which seemed oblivious and even proud to the tragedy of the sex slave trade that was a major tourist attraction taking place right at the city center.

After this documentary, things were never the same again as far as human trafficking to Netherlands was concerned. Individual, NGOS and the government were energized to take action.

Dr. Tom Marfo had since had over hundred interviews with the national and international press on this issue many of which can be found on the internet.

He is highly respected and sought after as a conference speaker and consultant on human trafficking from Africa to Europe as well as by many government institutions dealing with trafficking from Africa to The Netherlands.

Dr. Tom Marfo has received many awards for his relentless fight against human trafficking; including The Marga Klompe Foundation Award in 2002 and the“ Hero of Amsterdam award” in 2003.

Together with our partner organizations and the effort by the Netherlands government, we are thankful to God and proud to announce that the trafficking from Africa to the Netherlands has reduced drastically.
